Synopsis Billy Batson an orphaned newsboy is summoned by the ancient wizard Shazam. Shazam bestows upon the boy the powers of five gods and a historical figure. When Billy speaks the wizard's name, Billy is transformed into Captain Marvel, an adult super-hero.
Billy's first adventure as Captain Marvel pits him against a phantom scientist who plots to destroy the United States' Radio System. The phantom scientist turns out to be Dr. Thaddeuas Bodog Sivana making his 'first' appearance.
Cap defeats Sivana and gears up for more adventures.
Story Notes Another retelling of Captain Marvel's origin. This version is very similar to the original as published in Whiz Comics #2. The only major change is the local. It is learned in this story that Billy Batson lives in Fawcett City.
Note: The splash page incorrectly states that this retelling of Captain Marvel's origin is based on the version that appeared in Whiz #1, 1940. The first issue of Whiz was actually numbered #2. Issue #1 was presumably an ashcan issue and was never published.
Captain Marvel's jacket flap is missing in the illustration on the cover but is included in the story.
